Mustered in Sept. 4, 1861, in Phila. at age 25, a Morocco dresser. Wounded at Wilderness May 1864. According to Pa. Veteran Card, Foley died of his wounds Sept. 2, 1864, yet Camp Discharge weekly log recorded him as arriving Nov. 18, 1864, from Broad and Cherry St. Hospital, admitted same day to camp hospital for treatment of amputated right arm, then discharged from service Dec. 2, 1864. According to Bates, Foley’s wound left him absent at expiration of term
