79th Pa. Infantry
Regiment ('Lancaster Rifles') recruited in 1861 in Lancaster and Washington Counties. Attached to Army of the Ohio and Army of the Cumberland. Engaged in 14 combat operations including Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Sherman's March to the Sea and the Carolinas Campaign. 268 enlisted men and officers died of injury or illness. 19 died at Andersonville, 1 at Florence. Regiment mustered out July 12, 1865. 1 of its men passed through Camp Discharge.
