116th Pa. Infantry

Formed in 1862, mostly with men from Philadelphia, also from Montgomery (Co. G) , Chester, Schuylkill and Fayette Counties. Regiment was part of the famed Irish Brigade. Saw action in 8 engagements including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania CH, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. 145 enlisted men and officers succumbed to injuries or ailments. 15 died at Andersonville. Regiment was in Grand Review in D.C., then mustered out June 3 & July 14, 1865. 2 of its men spent time at Camp Discharge; both were Andersonville survivors.
