28th Pa. Infantry

Regiment organized in 1861 with men from Philadelphia and Luzerne, Westmoreland, Carbon, Northampton, Allegheny and Huntingdon Counties. Became known as 'the Goldstream Regiment.' Part of the Army of Virginia, Army of the Potomac (XII Corps), Army of the Cumberland. Involved in 19 combat engagements including Second Bull Run, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta Campaign, Kennesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek, Sherman's March to the Sea, Carolinas Campaign. Lost 284 enlisted men and officers to injuries or disease. Regiment mustered out July 1865. 24 of its men went through Camp Discharge, 12 of them ex-POWs.
