11th Pa. Infantry

Regiment organized in 1861 with men from Allegheny, Dauphin, Cumberland, Westmoreland, Clinton, Lycoming, and Carbon Counties. It became known as "the Bloody Eleventh." Was part of the Army of the Potomac (first I Corps, then V Corps). Took part in 16 engagements including Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania CH, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. 417 enlisted men and officers died from injuries or illnesses during service. 19 died at Andersonville. Regiment took part in the Grand Review in D.C., then mustered out July 1865. 9 of its men passed through Camp Discharge.
