Recruited in 1861 solely in Philadelphia. Assigned to Army of the Potomac (IV Corps, VI Corps). Fought at Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania CH, Cold Harbor, Petersburg. 194 of enlisted men and officers succumbed to injury or illness. Regiment mustered out June 29, 1865. 18 of its men passed through Camp Discharge, including 1 Andersonville survivor.
