Enrolled Aug. 26, 1861, in Phila. at age 32, a stonemason. Mustered in Oct. 31, 1861, at Camp Observation, Md. Sick during Antietam campaign, deserted hospital. Returned, but stripped from sergeant to corporal. Rose to second corporal. Fought at Gettysburg’s Bloody Angle. Hospitalized January 1864. Deserted again. Returned, wounded in action at Wilderness, Va., May 6, 1864. Sent to Satterlee hospital, Phila. Recorded at Camp Discharge Sept. 27, 1864. Hospitalized there to treat gunshot wounds to both legs Nov. 15, 1864. Mustered out Dec. 13, 1864, expiration of term.
