73rd Pa. Infantry
Regiment organized in 1861 in Philadelphia. Known as 'The Pennsylvania Legion.' Part of Army of the Potomac (II Corps, XI Corps), then Army of Virginia and Army of the Cumberland. Involved in 14 combat operations including Second Bull Run, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Atlanta, Kennesaw Mountain, Sherman's March to the Sea, Carolinas Campaign. 216 enlisted men and officers died of injuries or illness. 40 succumbed at Andersonville. Regiment mustered out July 14, 1865. 48 of its men passed through Camp Discharge, 11 of them Andersonville survivors.
