71st Pa. Infantry
Regiment raised in 1861 in Philadelphia, part of the famous Philadelphia Brigade. Assigned to Army of the Potomac (II Corps). Saw action in 23 combat operations including Balls Bluff, Savage Station, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Gettysburg, Fair Oaks, Fredericksburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Cold Harbor. 260 enlisted men and officers died of injuries or illness. 3 died at Andersonville. Regiment mustered out July 2, 1864. 6 of its men transited Camp Discharge, including 2 Andersonville survivors.
