Mustered in Sept. 20, 1861, in Phila. at age 24, a machinist born in Ireland. Re-enlisted Jan. 2, 1864, in Stevensburg, Va. Promoted from sergeant March 24, 1864. Commissioned as adjutant April 23, 1864, as captain Oct. 5, 1864, but not mustered. Recorded at camp Nov. 12, 1864, as being "absent without authority." Dismissed Feb. 27, 1865, by special order. Also dismissed from service July 25, 1865, dating to July 17, per instructions of mustering officer; date of discharge July 18.
