1st Pa. Cavalry (44th Pa. Regiment)

Recruited in 1861 in Athensville, Montgomery County (Co. B) and 13 other counties. Took part in 24 operations including Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, Petersburg and Appomattox. 201 enlisted men and officers died of injuries or illness during service. Regiment took part in Grand Review in D.C. 20 of its men passed through Camp Discharge, 12 of whom were Andersonville survivors.
