72nd Pa. Infantry

Regiment raised in 1861 in Philadelphia, part of the famous Philadelphia Brigade. Part of Army of the Potomac. Saw action in seven operations including Balls Bluff, Savage Station, Malvern Hill, Antietam and Gettysburg. 330 enlisted men and officers died of injuries or sickness. 4 died at Andersonville. Regiment mustered out Aug. 24, 1864, in Philadelphia. 35 of its men were at Camp Discharge, including 22 Andersonville survivors.
