Abstract: The 75 room mansion built c.1905 placed on 539 acres was designed by Peabody and Stearns of Boston; in addition to the house and gardens there was a working farm and dairy barns for immaculately kept Ayrshire cattle; according to legend, when Mr. Roberts lost a decision to the Lower Merion Township Commissioners with regard to the construction of a township incinerator whose tall smoke stack would be in his view, he and Bessye Roberts moved from the house to the Bellevue Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia; Mr. Roberts sold the house’s paneling and artwork and had the house demolished
